The examination of Elizabeth Ballard of the parish of Tenterden in the county of Kentsingle woman now residing in the parish of Sutton Valence taken upon oath before me one of his majestys Justices of the Peace for the said county ye 30th day of December Anno Dom 1730.

This examination deposeth and saith that Francis Godfrey of the parish of Tenterden husbandman had carnal knowledge of her body about 1 week after last Michaelmas twelve-month in the house of her master John Godfrey of the said parish of Tenterden, Yeoman, and also again about three weeks later in the same place-

And this deponent further saith that no man but the said Francis Godfrey hath had carnal knowledge of her and that the male child she was delivered of at Tenterden the 31st day of July last, was a bastard and was begotten by him the said Francis Godfrey.
