In the name of God Amen. I William Ballard Citizen and clockmaker of London now residing in Black Horse Alley Fleet Street London being of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding praised be God do make my last will and testament in manner and form following (that is to say) first I desire that all my just debts and funeral expenses may be paid and discharged by my executors hereinafter named as soon after my decease as conveniently may be. And I do hereby give and bequeath unto Roger Green of Fleet Market London fruiterer the sum of five pounds and also my Alarum. Also I give and bequeath unto Grace Green the wife of the said Roger Green the sum of five pounds to and for her own sole and separate use. Also I give and bequeath unto the said Roger Green his executors and administrators the sum of £15 in trust to pay the same to and for the several uses of Barnard Green Ann Green and Elizabeth Green the son and daughters of the said Roger Green in manner following (that is to say) the sum of five pounds to the said Barnard Green the sum of five pounds to the said Anne Green and the sum of five pounds to the said Elizabeth Green the which said several sums I will and direct may be paid to them the said Barnard Green Ann Green and Elizabeth Green at their respective ages of 21 years or days of marriage which shall first happen and my will and mind is that if either of them the said Barnard Green Ann Green and Elizabeth Green shall happen to die before he or she attains his or her age of 21 years or marriage that then his or her five pounds so dying shall go to the survivors and survivor of them and to the executors and administrators of such survivor. And I do hereby also give and bequeath unto Richard Wynn of Fleet Street aforesaid Mathematical Instrument Maker the sum of five pounds. Also I give and bequeath unto Robert <Iboll> of Fleet Market aforesaid Cornhandler the sum of five pounds. Also I give and bequeath unto my servant Susannah Barrett spinster the sum of five pounds to be paid her within three months after my decease. Also I give and bequeath unto Margaret <Handwith> widow the sum of three guineas and also my bed and bedstead which now stands in the garret of the house wherein I reside to be paid and delivered to her within one month after my decease. Also I give and bequeath unto the persons who shall be the watchmen of the parish of St Brides in the city of London at the time of my decease the sum of three guineas to be paid to them within three months after my decease. And I do hereby give devise and bequeath unto the said Roger Green and Richard Wynn their executors administrators and assigns all the rest and residue of my estate both real and personal whatsoever and wheresoever which I shall be seized or possessed of or interested in or entitled unto at the time of my decease equally to be divided between them and to hold the same as tenants in common and not as joints tenants. And lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint the said Roger Green and Richard Wynn executors of this which I declare to be my last will and testament and hereby revoking and making void all former Will and Wills by me at anytime heretofore made in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the eleventh Day of April 1761 – William Ballard – signed sealed published and declared for the said testator William Ballard as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence and at his request and also in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses hereto – Alexander Bland Chantry Lane – Mary Unsworth

 

This will was proved at London the 20th day of June in the year of our Lord 1763 before the worshipful Andrew <Collea> <Ducarol> Doctor of laws and surrogate of the right worshipful Sir Edward Simpson knight also doctor of laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully <to ????> by the oaths of Roger Green and Richard Wynn the executors named in the said will to whom administration was granted of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the deceased they having been first sworn duly to administer.
