In the name of God Amen; I
William Ballard of Eltham (parish) in the County of Kent being in perfect health
mind and memory (praised be almighty god) revoking all former wills and
testaments heretofor made do make and declare this my last will and testament in
writing as followeth. Imprimis I commend my soul into the hands of god, and my
body to the earth decently to be buried. Item I give devise and bequeath unto Ffrancis
White son of my brother John White of Eltham Esqr. All and singular my
messuages lands hereditament and hereditaments which where given unto me by my
late brother Thomas Ballard deceased in and by his lat will and
testament. Item I give unto my sister Joane White
fifty pounds to be paid her within a twelve month after my decease. Item I give
unto my sister Haynes fifty pounds to be paid
within a twelve month after my decease Item I give unto my brother John White
fifty pounds to be paid within a twelve month after my decease. Item my will and
meaning is that my cousin Ffrancis White shall not < enter? > any of my
said lands till he come to the age of twenty and two years only he shall have
twenty pounds yearly to bring him up till he come to the age of twenty two
years, but my will is that if my cousin Francis White shall not live to the age
of one and twenty years then I give the said lands to my
cousin Mary White daughter of John White and my
cousin Mary Haynes equally to be divided between them. Whereas there is a
thousand pounds left in Mr Robert Napper's hand for my
cousin Anne Ballard given to me by my said brother Thomas Ballard if in
case my cousin Anne shall die before she came to the age of one and twenty years
then my will and meaning is that the thousand pounds shall be disposed in this
manner following. Item one hundred pounds apiece to my brother Haynes his
children And one hundred pounds apiece to my brother John White his children.
Item I give unto my brother Abraham Haynes all
the books, which are in a trunk at his house. And whereas I have lately
purchased a house for one and twenty years of Ffrancis Knollis after the death
of his Grandmother for the allowing of which he hath entered into a statute of
two thousand pounds my will and meaning is it shall be sold and the money
equally divided between my brother John White and my brother Abraham Haynes
children. Item my will is that all my wearing apparel unless it be that which I
shall have with me when I die shall be sold and given unto the poor of the
parish of Woodhurst [Wadhurst], but that I shall have with me when I die I give
unto my boy which shall then serve me. Item it is my meaning that none of the
lands shall be sold for the payment of these legacies but my executrix shall pay
them as she can by felling of the wood and the surplus of the rent. The rest and
residue of my goods and chattels and debts whatsoever (after the debts which I
shall owe at my death) and my funeral paid and discharged I give unto my
beloved sister Mistress Martha Haynes whom I make and ordain sole
executrix of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto
set my seal and subscribed my name dated the fourteenth of November in the Reign
of our Lord God one thousand six hundred forty and two. William Ballard. Signed

Third day of July 1648 probate
granted to Abraham Haynes as the executor for Martha Haynes deceased who was
named as executrix.
