In the name of God Amen. I Thomas Ballard of Poplar --- in the parish of Stepney and County of Middlesex mariner now outward bound to sea and knowing the dangers incident thereunto do make and ordain this present writing in paper to be and contain my last will and testament. First I commend my soul to almighty God and my body to the earth and as for my temporal estate I do dispose thereof as followeth. Item to my sister Mathew (sic) Kempthorne forty pounds of lawful money of England. Item to my Aunt Bridgett Heath ten pounds of like lawful money. Item to my Uncle Richard Merritt and Mary is wife to each of them five pounds. Item I give and bequeath to my brothers Thomas Shightholme and Mary his wife to each of them fifteen pounds of like lawful money. All the rest of my estate goods and chattels whatsoever I give and bequeath to my esteemed friend Joseph Gardiner of Poplar aforesaid porter. And I do nominate and appoint the said Joseph Gardiner to be full and sole executor of this my last will and testament revoking all former or other will or wills by me at any time heretofore made and publishing this present writing as and for my last will and testament in testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the sixteenth day of October Anno dmi one thousand six hundred eighty four.
