In the name of god Amen; I
Thomas Ballard of London gent being weak and sick in body but of good and
perfect mind and memory praise be almighty god revoking all former wills and
testaments by me heretofore made do make and declare this my last will and
testament in writing as followeth. Imprimis I commend my soul unto the hands of
god and my body to the earth to be decently buried. Item I give devise and
bequeath unto my brother William Ballard and his
heirs forever all and singular my messuages lands tenements and hereditaments
which where given unto me by my late father Thomas
Ballard Esquire deceased in and by his last will and testament. Item I
give to my beloved wife Anne Ballard forty two
pounds yearly during her <??all> life <issuing> of the <cost>
of a thousand pounds deposited in my brother in laws hands Mr. Napper, Mrs.
<???????> as <no ?????> consent of <friends> on both sides and
in consideration of her jointure. And I do hereby declare that I have and do
asmuch as in me by each freely forgive her and do likewise before god ask his
mercy to pardon unto her all her lewd carriage and misdemeanour toward me
<both> <????> lately caused a separation between us. Item I give
unto my daughter Anne Ballard twenty eight pounds
annually for her maintenance during her minority issuing likewise out of the
<???> money of the beforesaid thousand pounds. Item I give unto my said
daughter six hundred pounds when she shall accomplish the age of twenty one
years if she <be> her mother be then deceased otherwise I give unto her
but four hundred pounds but after her mother decease I give unto my said
daughter two hundred pounds the full sum of six hundred above named. Item my
will is that if my said daughter shall marry with the consent and approbation of
my beloved brothers Mr John White Esq. and Mr Abraham
Haynes Clerk then I give unto her four hundred pounds more <????>
is the full sum of that thousand pounds above named in my
brother in law's hands Mr Robert Napper from whence solely that of late
bequeathed to my wife and daughter is to issue. But my will is my daughter shall
not accomplish the said age of twenty one years then I give and bequeath the
thousand pounds unto my executor hereafter named. Item I give unto Samuel
Maplesden my God child son of Samuel Maplesden the sum of thirty pounds
when he shall accomplish the age of twenty one years. Item my will and mind is
that my said daughter Anne shall be educated and brought up according unto the
disc??? Of my brothers Mr. John White and Mr. Abraham Haynes and by them only
<????> disposed of. Item I bequeath unto my brother William Ballard all my
books and wearing apparel. Item I give and bequeath unto my sister
Mrs. Martha Haynes all my <lymon> which was lately brought to my
brother Haynes's his house The rest and residue of all and singular my goods and
chattels and debts whatsoever after that my debts <????> shall owe at my
death and my funeral charges paid and discharged I give and bequeath unto my
beloved brother William Ballard whom I ordain sole executor of this my last will
and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my seal and subscribed my
name dated the tenth day of September in the year of our Lord God 1641. Memorand
that if my daughter Anne die before she accomplish the age of 21 years then my
executor shall pay out of the thousand pounds one hundred to Mary
Haynes daughter of my sister Haynes This omitted but written before
ensealing hereof Thomas Ballard signed sealed published and declared by the
testator for his last will and testament in the presence of Samuel Skelton,
Martha Haynes, Elizabeth Anderson.
