In the name of God Amen I Sarah Elizabeth Ballard of Knightsbridge in the county of Middlesex widow being of sound mind and memory do hereby declare this to be my last will and testament. I give and bequeath unto Thomas Payne of Whitehall in the county of Middlesex Yeoman and William Payne his brother my two nephews all my real and personal property plate linen and China to be equally divided between them after paying to my dear sister Ann Mary Payne the sum of £20 a year during her natural life and likewise giving her all my household furniture and my wearing apparel for her own use and benefit. I also hereby appoint the above named Thomas Payne of Whitehall and Jonathan Sampson of South Street Park Lane in the county of Middlesex coal merchant executors of this my last will and testament. I also give unto my aforesaid executors the sum of two guineas each for a mourning ring to each of them. In witness whereof I the said Sarah Elizabeth Ballard have set my hand and seal this 20th day of May 1819 Sarah E. Ballard witness Joshua Wood 8 Ellis Street Sloane Square.

 

6 August 1821 I Sarah Elizabeth Ballard do hereby appoint the within named William Payne brother to the within named Thomas Payne joint executor of this my last will and testament instead of the within named Jonathan Sampson. In witness whereof I hereby set my hand Sarah E Ballard witnessed Joshua Wood No 8 . Ellis Street Sloane Square.

 

Appeared personally Amelia Harriet of More Street Kensington in the county of Middlesex spinster and made oath that she hath <?????> been acquainted with Sarah Elizabeth Ballard formerly of South Street Park Lane afterwards of Knightsbridge but late of More Street Kensington in the county of Middlesex widow for many years previously and down to the time of her death and during such her acquaintance <????> <???> frequently seen her write and subscribed her name to writings and <?????> named  <??????> and be well acquainted with the manner and character of handwriting and subscription having now carefully viewed and inspected a certain paper writing hereunto annexed purporting to be and contain the last will and testament and codicil thereto of the said deceased of the said will bearing date “the twentieth day of May 1819” and thus subscribed “Sarah E Ballard” and the said codicil bearing date “August 6th, 1821” and thus subscribed “Sarah E Ballard” and having particularly noticed the said subscriptions Sarah E Ballard respectively she on her Earth saith and staff verily and in her plank believe that they are respectively of proper handwriting and subscription of further said Sarah Elizabeth Ballard widow deceased – Amelia Harriet on the tenth of April 1826 percent and media Harriet spinster was duly sworn to the truth of this affidavit before me JJ Richard <????> Pt.  Thomas Dyke. <? ?>

 

Proved at London with a codicil 12th April 1826 before the worshipful John Tranchard  Doctor of laws surrogate by the oaths of Thomas Payne the nephew the executor named in the will and William Payne the nephew also the executor named in the codicil to whom administration was granted having been first sworn duly to administer.
