This is the last will and testament of me Sarah Ballard of Hawkhurst in the county of Kent widow. Whereas by a certainly indenture dated on the nineteenth day of April 1794 being the settlement made before and in contemplation of the marriage then intended and afterwards solemnized between me and my late husband John Ballard deceased and made between me the said Sarah Ballard then Sarah Heath widow of the first part the said John Ballard of the second part and Benjamin Boorman and William Boorman of the third part the sum of £200 was settled upon certain trusts therein declared by virtue whereof the same or the securities where on the same may be invested and the interest which may after my decease become due for the same stand limited or settled from and immediately after my decease upon trust for such person and persons and in such parts shares and proportions manner and form as I shall in and by my last will and testament in writing under my hand and seal and attested by two or more credible witnesses give bequeath direct or appoint. Now therefore I do and by this my last will and testament in writing under my hand and seal and attested by two or more credible witnesses give and bequeath direct and appoint that the said sum of £200 and the security or securities in or upon which the same or any part thereof may be put and placed out together with all interest due and owing for the same at the time of my decease or thereafter to become due shall from and immediately after my decease fall into and become part of my personal estate hereinafter by me bequeathed. And I do accordingly give and bequeath the same and do also give and bequeath all my moneys and securities for money debts due and owing to me money in the public or other stocks funds or securities household goods household furniture plate linen China books goods chattels and personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever and of every nature and kind charged with the payment of my debts and funeral and testamentary expenses unto the several persons and in the manner following that is to say I give and bequeath the legacy or sum of £100 of lawful money of Great Britain unto each of the four several persons next hereinafter named (that is to say) my sons George Ballard and Isaac Ballard my daughter Sarah Ballard spinster and my granddaughter Elizabeth the wife of Robert Mercer of Headcorn in the county of Kent Farmer. And I give and bequeath and release unto my daughter Rachel wife of John Boorman of Biddenden in the county of Kent Farmer the sum of £100 now due and owing to me from them and for which I hold their receipt or other security. And I give and bequeath all my household goods household furniture plate linen China and books unto my said four children George Ballard Isaac Ballard Rachel the wife of John Boorman and Sarah Ballard equally to be divided amongst them share and share alike. And I also give and bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of my goods chattels and personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever unto the said George Ballard Isaac Ballard Rachel the wife of John Boorman Sarah Ballard and Elizabeth the wife of Robert Mercer equally to be divided amongst them share and share alike. And I direct that in case any legatees in this my will named shall die in my lifetime leaving issue living at the time of my decease then and in that case the executors or administrators of every such legatee so dying shall take and be entitled to the legacies or benefits hereby bequeathed or intended for such legatees respectively. And I do constitute and appoint my said son and George Ballard John Lavender of Hawkhurst aforesaid corner dealer and George Roberson of Lamberhurst in the said county of Kent Cordwainer to be the executors of this my last will and testament. And lastly I do revoke all other wills and testamentary writings and by me at anytime heretofore made. In witness whereof I the said Sarah Ballard the testator have hereunto set my hand and seal on the 24th day of April 1829. – Sarah Ballard – signed sealed published and declared by the said Sarah Ballard the testator as and for her last will and testament in the presence of us –Peter Lamb Hussey – John Elliott Wilson – Hawkhurst

 

I give and bequeath my wearing apparel unto my two daughters Rachel the wife of John Boorman and Sarah Ballard equally to be divided between them share and share alike dated the 24th day of April 1829 – Sarah Ballard – signed in the presence of Peter Lamb Hussey – John Elliott Wilson

 

Proved at London with a codicil the 19 April 1830 before the charge by the oaths of George Ballard the son John Lavender and George Roberson the executors to whom Admon was granted having been first sworn by commission duly to administer.
