In the name of God amen the eighth day of October in the year of our Lord God 1607 I John Ballard of Weston Subedge in the county of Gloucester yeoman being sick in body yet of good and perfect memory all laude and praise be given to the author and giver thereof do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following: first I bequeath my soul to almighty god my creator and to Jesus Christ my redeemer and to the holy ghost my sanctifier steadfastly hoping that after this transitory and painful life is ended a <?all> through the precious death and blood shedding of my lord and saviour Jesus Christ be made partaker of the eternal joys which are prepared for his elect and chosen servants in the land of the living.  And I will that my body shall be buried in the church of Weston Subedge aforesaid to which church I give for my burial there 10 shillings.  Item I give to the poor of Weston aforesaid eight strikes of wheat and barley to be equally distributed amongst them.  Item I give to Mary my wife £50.00 of lawful English money to be paid unto her within one year next after my decease.  Item I give to John Eddon of Northwick £3 six shillings eight pence of lawful money of England.  Item I give to Henry Eddon of Blockley £3 six shillings eight pence of like lawful money of England both which several sums I will shall be paid within one year next after my decease.  And all the rest of my goods movable and unmoveable of what nature kind or property so ever they or any of them be I give and bequeath to Edward Ballard my son whom I do make my whole and sole executor of this my last will and testament.  And I do make and request Thomas Ballard of Willersley and Thomas Engles of Eyneyborn to be my faithful and trusted overseers to see this my last will performed according to the true intent and meaning of the same to whom I do give three shillings four pence apiece.  In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written John Ballard his mark sealed and delivered in the presence of William Jenks Robert Hancock Thomas Inglis his mark Thomas Ballard his mark

 

Probate at London 7th of February, 1610 granted to Edward Ballard natural son of the deceased.
