In
the name of God Amen the XVIIth day of the monthe of February in the year of our
Lord 1551 I John Ballarde of the pyshe of harnhill hole of mynd thankes be unto
Almighty God who be yt sycke of body make my testament and last wyll in maner
and forme followynge. FIRST I bequeathe my sowl unto almighty god my maker and
Redemmer and my body to be buryed in the churchyard of Harnhyll aforesayd. First
I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth my wyfe my best fether bed, Also I gyve unto
Thomas my eldest son my best matress my best coverlet save one A bolster a
blanket a payre of shetes and a testar Also I give lykewyse unto the sayd Thomas
my Eldest son my other fether bed a coverlet a bolster a blanket A payre of
shetes Also I gyve unto Thomas my Eldest son lykewyse my third brasse pote my
thyrde ketle my platters a salte a Candlestycke and a sawsar furthermore I gyve
and bequeathe unto my other sone Thomas the youngest my best mattress save one
my thyrde coverlet a bolster a blanket a payre of shetes and a testar, Also I
unto Thomas my other youngest son my forthe brasse pott my for the ketle iiij
platters a salte a candlestycke and a sawcer Also I give unto my ii sommes
Thomas the Elder and Thomas the youngest to every of them ii chestes a pece And
I wyll Thomas the Eldest and Thomas the youngest to every of them a pece a stand
of wheat and a stand of otes, Also I gyve unto my son Thomas the younger vij£
of good and lawful money of England, Also I wyll that all the bequeathes
aforesayd bequeathed unto my ii sommes Thomas the Eldest and Thomas the youngest
shall Remayne in the handes of my Executrix or assygns untyll my sayd ii sonnes
Thomas the Eldest and Thomas the youngest cum to thage of xxi years, Also I wyll
that if it shall chance any of my ii sonnes dye without hayres of their bodyes
lawfully begotten befor they cum to thage of xxi years Then I wyll their
bequeathes given to them shall remayn unto Elizabeth my wyfe, Also I wyll that
my Executrix or assigne shall pay unto Thomas Ballard by Eldest sone when he
comythe to thage of xxi years viij£ of good and lawfull money of England
provided all ways that iy yt shall chance the sayd Thomas Ballard my Eldest sone
do not seale a relese unto Wyllyam Laker his brother As I am bound in sertayn
wrytinges then I wyll that the sayd Thomas Ballard my Eldest son shall not have
the sayd viij£ bequeathed unto hym but that the sayd viij£ shall remayn unto
my Executrix or assigne then I wyll that my Executrix or assigne shall pay unto
Willyam Laker or his assignes v£ of good and lawfull money of England as I am
bounde by certayn wrytinges as ys beforesayd. Item I gyve unto John Laker my
godson xijd Also I give to Styvyn Laker vjs viijd to be paid at my monthes day
Also I gyve to John Rawlyn the younger vjs viijd Also I give to John Colverden
my best clocke Also I give to Chrystopher Potter vjs viijd Also I will that my
executrix shall dystrybute At my buryall uppon the pour a vessell of beer x
dozen of bread and an Essex Chese, the Residues of all my goods my legacyes payd
my debts payd and my wyll fulfyllyd I Gyve and bequeathe unto Elizabeth my wyfe,
whom I make and ordayne to be my Executrix of this my testament and last wyll to
pay my debts my legacyes and to fulfyll my wyll, Also I ordayne and make Robert
…….. to be overseer of this my testament and last wyll to see my wyll
fulfylled and he to have for his labor and paynes takynge about my wyll vs.
As touching my house and lande that I have in the pyshe of Harnhill I wyll that Elizabeth my wyfe shall have all the pfyte of the same house and lande untyll my son Thomas the elder comythe to the age of xxi years she keeping the same herself and lande wynd tythe and water tythe untyll my son comythe to the age of xxi years, and when my son Thomas the Elder comythe to the age of xxi years, then I wyll that my house and land shall remayne unto my son Thomas the elder in fee simple, furthermore I wyll also that Elizabeth my wyfe shall have xxvjs viijd for the repatyons of my house and land that I have in the pyshe of Harnhill aforenamyd. Those berring witness to this my testament and last wyll John Colverden, Christopher Potter and Richard Dynslarke curat of Harnhill.
