In
the name of Almighty God Amen the last day of the month of July in the year of
our lord god 1499 and the 14th year of the reign of King Henry VII I
Humphrey Ballard gent being in my good and whole mind and dying and praising be
unto to my Lord Jesus Christ ordain and make this my present testament and last
will in manner and form following. Firstly I bequeath and recommend my soul to
almighty Jesus my maker and saviour and to the blessed virgin our lady Saint
Mary and to all the holy company of heaven and my body to be buried in the
chancel of the parish church of Saint Martin in the Field beside charyncross if
I decease <????> in my <??????> Item I will that my executors
underwritten immediately after my decease do make and ordain for an honest
office of good rule and compassion to pray and <??????> for my soul the
soul of Thomas Ballard my father Phillipe my mother
and all others souls in the said church of Saint Martin by the grace of gods
mercie next after my decease. And I bequeath to the said priest for his salary
and wages yearly ten marks which priest I will shall be at all <????>
<????> in the said church to be said and sung by all the said time. Item I
bequeath to my <sariite> John Ballard to pray for me 10 pounds in ready
money. Item I bequeath to every of my <??> godchildren <six pounds
eight shillings> a piece. The residue of all my goods and chattels moneable
and unmonneable not bequeathed after my debts paid my burying done and my
bequests fulfilled I give freely and wholly to <father> Robert <Gurrard>
priest <????> of the said parish church of Saint Martin William <Wallez>
of the same <Bre???> and Thomas Cade yeoman they <????> the
<S????> to so ordain <????> and <dis???> for my soul and all
the soules and <??????> as to them shall seem most <Bes??> to the
pleasure of almighty god. And for the health and sake of my soul and of this my
present testament and last will I ordain and make my executors that is to say
the said Robert <Gurrard> William Wallez and Thomas Cade and I bequeath to
each of them for their labours in that <post> to be had 20 <??>
<?????> <?????> to this present testament and last will I have set
my seal <upon> the <day> and year aforesaid. In the presence of us
<Roger> <Ffermo> priest John Ballard John Brady and many others
<witness> it is a fair <???????>.
