In the name of God Amen the 16th day of September 1603 and in the first year of the reign of our sovereign Lord James by the grace of God King of England Scotland France and Ireland defender of the faith. I Francis Ballard of East Greenwich within the County of Kent, Baker, being sick in body but of good and perfect memory thanks be to God, do make and ordain this my last testament containing therein my last will in manner and form following. First and principally I commend my soul into the hands of almighty God my maker, hoping through the merit and passion of Jesus Christ to have a joyful resurrection, And my body to be buried in the place appointed for christian burial within the said parish of Greenwich, And for such goods as god of his goodness in this world hath lent me, I will and bequeath the same as followeth. Item I give unto the poor of the parish of Greenwich aforesaid the sum of four and twenty shillings to be distributed amongst them <?????> after my funeral ended. Item I give unto my daughter Elizabeth the sum of twenty pounds of good and lawful money of England to be paid unto her by mine executors hereunder named at the day of her marriage or at the age of twenty and one years which shall first or next happen. Item I give unto my daughter <Lucres?> the sum of thirty pounds of good and lawful money of England to be paid unto her at the day of her marriage or at the same <????>. Item I give unto my cousin Mary Scot forty shillings to be paid unto her within three months after my decease. Item I give unto her sister Elizabeth the like sum of forty shillings to be also paid her within the same time. Item I give unto Thomas my godson Sarah's son other forty shillings to be paid to his use within one year next after my decease. Item I do ordain and make Anne Ballard my wife and Michael Ballard my son sole executors of this my last will and testament. Also I will and appoint that if Anne my said wife do at any time marry or contract herself for matrimony that then the house with the appurtenances wherein I dwell shall be and <????? ?????> unto my son Michael my said son paying unto my wife the sum of forty pounds of good and lawful money of England. Item I also will and ordain that if my said son Michael do happen to decease before he shall be married that then Anne my said wife shall pay unto the said <Lucres?> and Elizabeth my daughters and to each of them the sum of ten pounds of good and lawful money of England within one year next after my said son's death to amend their portions. And then to take and <?????> all the residue to her own use. Item I give unto Henry Abbot of Greenwich, butcher, and John Ballard my cousin whom I do make and ordain supervisors and overseers of this my last will and testament the sum of forty shillings each of them for that they shall take pains to see this my last will accomplished as much as in their power lyeth. All the rest of my goods moveables chattels and ready money whatsoever not in this my last will already bequeathed, my funeral discharged and my debts paid I give and bequeath unto my said executors above namedupon condition they do <????> this my last will without fraud or guile. In witness whereof I the said Francis Ballard have hereunto put my hand and seal in the presence of those whose names are hereunder written the day and year aforesaid.
