In the name of God Amen. Of my Charles Taylor Ballard late of the city of London druggist and now living in the town and county of Southampton being very infirm and weak in body but of sound mind and memory do make this my last will and testament in manner following Imprimis I will that all my just debts and funeral expenses be duly paid and discharged. Item I give and bequeath to my servant Elizabeth Partridge the sum of £10 for her diligent care of me during my illness All the rest residue and remainder of my personal estate book debts bond debts goods and chattels whatsoever I give and bequeath to my only son Charles Ballard of New Windsor in the county of Berks and whereas my son-in-law Michael Morris of the city of Westminster Doctor of physick is indebted to me on bond in the sum of £200 my will is that in case there should be assets sufficient to discharge all my debts and funeral expenses then my executor shall not distress him during his lifetime by calling in or demanding the said money or interest there of and in case of his death then my will is that whatever money my executor can recover from the executors or administrators of the said Michael Morris shall be reserved by my executor for the use and benefit of my daughter Barbara wife of the said Michael Morris and her children (that is to say) the interest thereof to my said daughter during her life and at her decease the principle then to be divided amongst all the children of my said daughter by the said Michael Morris share and share alike and I do hereby revoke and make void all former wills by me made and I do hereby name make and appoint my said son Charles Ballard sole executor of this my last will in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the sixth day of November in the year of our Lord 1770 – the mark of Charles Ballard – signed sealed published and declared by the said testator as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us and in his presence attested my us – John Speed – Robert Ballard

 

This will was proved at London on the 20th day of March in the year of our Lord 1771 before the worshipful George Harris Doctor of laws and surrogate of the right worshipful George Bray also doctor of laws Master keeper or Commissary of the prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of Charles Ballard the son of the deceased and sole executor named in the said will to whom administration of the goods chattels and credits of the above said deceased was granted he having been first sworn duly to administer.
