In the name of god Amen. I Adrian Ballard Citizen and Skinner
of London being somewhat sick and weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and
memory praised be God therefore doe revoke all former wills and testaments by me
heretofore made and make this my present last will and testament in writing in
manner and form following. That is to say First and principally I commend my
soul unto the hands of Almighty God and my body to the earth to be buried in
decent and Christian manner at the discretion of my executor hereunder named
hoping and verily believing that at the great and general day of judgement the
same <my> body shall by the <????> of the lord Christ be raised
again and be <reunited> to my soul, And that then I may go unto the host
of God <?????> and servants <????> by the only merits of our Lord
Jesus my Saviour <???> <????> confirmation of this <??> both
in soul and body <???> Kingdom of Heaven forever, And concerning that
portion of temporal Estate that the Lord in mercy hath first <?????> unto
me I dispose thereof as followeth, viz. I give and bequeath as several tokens of
my love the several following legacies namely to my two
brothers in lawe John Lambert and Edward Lambert to my two
sisters Katherine Bickerstaffe and Katherine Cooper
and to my cousin Elizabeth Bayley wife of my cousin
Theophilus Bayley and to my
<dearest> friend Mr Thomas Collins to every of them twenty shillings
apiece in money to make them rings to wear in remembrance of me and to my cousin
Mary Bayley daughter of my said cousins Theophilus and Elizabeth
I bequeath ten shillings in money. Item I give and bequeath to the Minister
and Churchwardens of Ratcliffe upon Trent in the county of Nottinghamshire[v]
for the relief of the poor of the said town three pounds in money, And to the Minister
and Churchwardens of the parish of Christchurch London
for the relief of the poor there the like sum of three pounds. Item I bequeath
to the parsons of Ludgate and the Two Compters of London fifteen shillings
apiece in money <only> for the releasing or relieving of poor persons in
those two prisons and my executor and overseers undernamed shall think fitting.
The rest and surplus of all and singular my goods chattels and debts whatsoever
after that the debts paid I wholly give and bequeath to my welbeloved son
John Ballard
whom I make and ordain the sole executor of this my last will and testament. And
I desire and <???> unto my loving friend the said Theophilus Bayley my
cousin and Mr Thomas Haynes to be the Overseers thereof <???????> them so
<f???> as they may, which I know they will to be minding and assisting
unto my said executor in the execution of this my will And for <these>
pains to be taken therein and as tokens of <??????> I bequeath unto either
of them <fourtie> shillings in money to make them rings, And my will is
that every of my <said legacies> shalbe paid within one year next after my
death, In witness whereof I the said Adrian Ballard have to this my last will
and testament set my hand and seal dated the nine and twentieth day of August
Anno Domini one thousand six hundred and fourtie And in the sixteenth year of
the reign of our sovereign Lord Charles by the Grace of God King of England,
Scotland France and Ireland Defender of the Faith by me Adrian Ballard Signed
Sealed Published and Acknowledged by the Testator for his last will and
testament on the <???> of the date hereof in the presence of John Ballard
and John Haynes.
Probatum fuit testamentum … probate granted in London on 24
September 1640 to John Ballard son of the deceased.

Calendar of wills for the PCC provides the additional information that Adrian
was of Mortlake in London.
