C1/186/98
Robert
Ballard c. Edward Hill
Bill
of Complaint of Robert Ballard,
No
date
On
6 January in the 7th year of the current reign (1492/3) Ballard
agreed to lend Hill 33 pounds 6 shillings and 8 pence because he was “glad to
sett him forward in his own occupation”, but, because Hill was not yet 21 (5
or 6 months younger), he was not willing to lend the money without collateral
which Hill could not provide but he did promise by bill of his own hand to repay
the debt by the feast of All Saints next by which time he would be 21. But he
did not repay it as promised. Ask that Hill be summoned before the court to
answer.
